The City of Brainerd and its employee labor groups share a common goal of providing high quality public service and leadership in creating a sustainable city. Our employees consistently go above and beyond in serving our citizens every day. The City is dedicated to securing fair contracts that align our resources, support our employees, and ultimately contribute to the City’s success.
Contract negotiations occur every 2-3 years for all employee groups. Throughout this process, both the City and the bargaining group present their proposals for contract terms. However, neither party is obligated to accept the other’s proposals. Negotiations can take several months, requiring patience even when progress is evident.
While the City believes it has provided a strong and fair offer to the bargaining unit, the City remains committed to continued good faith negotiations and mediation with IBEW to agree on the terms of a new labor agreement. Moreover, the City is working on contingency plans and will continue to provide safe, efficient, and quality services to its residents during this period.
